| Abstract: | SUMARRIES. Some modifications of the FMC mass deacidification system are presented. They avoid hydrofluorocarbons, result in a higher alkaline reserve and avoid the post-treatment odor sometimes observed with the previous chemicals. Five different papers, three representing the genera! modern types ground wood, chemical pulp and rag-containing, and two representing typical historical types, have been treated according to the improved system and, using accelerated aging, thoroughly tested for improvement of physical properties. The results demonstrate that the FMC treatment has a positive effect on all papers. |
