| Summary: | SUMMARIES. The system of disinfection of library collections installed in the Silesian Library in Katowice based on a technique of their ethylene oxide induced fumigation is based on universally accepted solutions. These are a vacuum chamber and a neutralizer of the fumigating gas whereby the action mechanism consists in catalytic combustion of ethylene oxide to toxicologically neutral products. The essential element of the system is control of the presence of the fumigating gas in strategie points of this installation conducted on a permanent basis and reliable assessment of the efficiency of the catalytic process of combustion. It seems that the system meets stringent toxicological and environment protection requirements binding in the United States where the neutralizer itself has been produced and authorized for use. |
