| Summary: | SUMMARIES. On May 7, 1998 a one-day meeting was held at the National Library to sum up the hitherto assistance offered to flood-stricken libraries and present the activities launched in order to alleviate the effects of the flood. In total the number of saved and dried collections, using various techniques, reached about 16.500 volumes, including 7,000 frozen copies. Two documents were presented to the participants: a programme of conservation of books saved after the flood, developed at the National Library, and a programme of activity of the National Council for Saving of Flood-Stricken Library Collections called to life in December 30, 1997. The Council, apart from pursuing its goals, shall also be active through its conservation and preservation sections as an opinion leader, adviser and coordinator of works connected with the saving of after-flood Collections in Poland. The initiatives of library and library conservation communities gained acceptance of the Ministry of Culture and Arts and the Office of Conservation Works officials.
