Zhrnutie:SUMMARIES. The growing interest observed over the recent years in historical collections brought to the foreground a number of issues connected with conservation, cataloguing and access to library resources. To signalize these problems a conference was held on November 5-6, 1998 at the Voivodship Public Library in Opole on "Historical Collections in Public Libraries". Not without a reason it was exactly the Voivodship Public Library in Opole, offering valuable historical collections, which invited librarians and conservators from all over Poland to discuss issues encountered on a daily basis by keepers of historical collections. The session was also a chance to present valuable collections possessed by the Silesian Piast Dynasty Museum in Brzeg (first day of the conference) and the Voivodship Public Library in Opole with its historical collections (rare books, manuscripts, historical fine prints and maps) in the castle of Rogów Opolski. The conference participants focused on three issues: 1. Preservation and conservation of library collections, 2. Cataloguing of historical collections using uniform software which in the future will enable the creation of a central database of historical collections in Poland, 3. Profiles of historical and regional collections in libraries, presentation of the list of libraries which owing to the quality of their collections were included in the National Library Resource.
