| Summary: | SUMMARIES. From October 15-17, 1998 a national conference was held at the National Library on "Preservation and Conservation of Library Collections" as an event preceding the 4th Forum of the Polish Librarians Association.The major goal of the conference was to present the latest trends, solutions and accomplishments in the area of preservation and conservation of library collections worldwide, to discuss the current status and prospects for development in this area in Poland and to define the existing needs and possibilities for implementing activities designed by the library community. The conference was attended by about 130 representatives from several dozen libraries from all over Poland, there were 24 speakers from the library, conservation and research and development community. The final part of the conference was devoted to the discussion of the two documents prepared by the conference organizers: ˙ key tenets of the "Programme of Preservation, Conservation and Restoration of Library Collections" ˙ "Address to launch efforts to promote the use permanent paper in Polish documents and publications". Both documents were submitted for discussion of the 4th PLA Forum. The conference was accompanied by a number of interesting events and exhibitions.
