| Abstract: | Conclusions. The results of our investigation show that 8 years after fumigation, formaldehyde and thymol are still present in air and books in storage areas. DDT used for desinsectisation can also be found in some storage areas. Even if the most dangerous chemicals are not still being applied, we have to deal with objects and indoor environment permeated with them. This residual chemicals are of great danger for staff and visitors. There are a lot of valuable collections of worldwide cultural/historical heritage in St. Petersburg. Non-toxic methods are not used to eradicate pest in libraries, archives and museums in St. Petersburg. The problem of non-toxic fumigation for insect eradication is carefully described in various publications. However there is not enough information in the literature concerning the problem of effectiveness of alternative control techniques to kill mold. To introduce non-toxic fumigation policy in basic culture institutions, there is a need for investigation of effectiveness of alternative techniques for eradication of fungal species with high resistance to different treatments, especially those isolated from storage of cultural property after disaster. |
