Description
Abstract:Summaries. FMC Corporation has developed a process which can efficiently deacidify and strengthen millions of books and other historic hand-written documents to keep them from eventually disintegrating into dust. The process was designed so that materials can be taken directly off the shelf put in sealed containers, treated in large quantities and returned to the library all without being touched by human hands. The entire process is non-toxic and environmentally safe. Independent laboratory results for a number of paper types have been obtained for a broad spectrum of both physical and chemical analyses. These results confirm the capability of the process. Additionally, the uniformity of treatment has been demonstrated by Scanning Electron Microscope.
