| Abstract: | SUMMARIES. The stabilisation of paper by means of splitting is an integral part of the paper conservation process of the ZFB ZENTRUM FUR BUCHERHALTUNG GmbH. While mass deacidification prevents the further acid degradation of paper, paper splitting enables the restoration of severely damaged material and thus renders it usable again. The entire paper conservation process comprises wet treatment, leaf casting and paper splitting. Variation of the individual procedures allows the treatment of diverse damages such as acid degradation, ink corrosion and mould damage. Even severely damaged objects regain their usability after stabilisation by splitting. |
