520 3 |a SUMMARY. In summary, we discussed the design of a hyperspectral imaging instrument dedicated to research in paper and writing durability. Initial experimental results obtained with a laboratory setup show that such an instrument can be used successfully for distinguishing between different types of inks. In conclusion, our investigations indicate that the hyperspectral imaging instrument has a huge potential to become a standard research tool for a last, nondestructive, spatially resolved analysis of historic documents, e.g. for assessing their condition or enhancing their legibility.
