Description
Summary:SUMMARIES. The best method of treatment in the case of books, other library and archive materials soaked in water is to freeze-dry them in temperature of at least -29°C and to store them in temperature not higher than -18°C until their conservation treatment. The frozen collections can be dried using different methods, but the best one is freeze-drying, which involves dehydration in low vacuum when ice is sublimated into vapour without going through the liquid phase. This article contains a report on the process of drying using the freeze--drying method of a collection of ancient books from the Higher Religious Seminar in Nysa which got soaked in water during the flood in 1997 and after freezing was treated using the freeze-drying method in the National Library in Warsaw.
