| Abstract: | SUMMARIES. A view on the kinetics of cellulose ageing is given, oriented particularly on the problem of stability and the degradation of paper, for which cellulose can be considered as a model compound. Reservations concerning the conditions of cellulose degradation are exposed, e.g. that the research efforts are focussed on the degradation of cellulose at temperatures from 90°C down to room temperature at the full range of relative humidity, even if the range 30-80% is the most essential one. The phenomenological model of cellulose degradation presented by Zou, its generalisation, range of applicability and experimental background is discussed. Emphasis is put on the role of diffusion phenomena and the attempts of identification of degradation products. An overview on the experimental data found by the research group headed by the author is given. |
