| Abstract: | Conclusions. We believe that we have followed Le Corbusier's dictum that «form follows function» and that the design of our building reflects the needs of the archive collections we preserve and the demands made on them. There is no such thing as the ideal building, and as architectural fashions change and more information becomes available, building design will continue to evolve. Our new Building, Thomas Thomson House, was conceived, designed, constructed and occupied in a relatively short space of time. Although this was traumatic for all those directly concerned, it had the advantage of ensuring that the design was in keeping with current thinking, and that the final building closely reflects what was initially planned. |
